Exhibition │ Carmina, Carlota: Retail Ritual by Carlota Guerrero at National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Wednesday 03 June at 19:00
“When Carmina was born, I thought I could kill for her. I did not recognize the woman who had this thought. Following her birth, I repeated the same action for months. I would visit luxury retail stores. I spoke to sales assistants. I asked for high heels and an outfit. I accepted the glass of champagne. Then, I entered the fitting rooms with her.

In the reflection of the mirror, I photographed our actions. What began as a gesture turned into a sustained search: procedural, almost ritualistic. These are liminal spaces: semi-public, transitional, never intended to hold prolonged forms of intimacy.
Within these rooms, friction emerged. An environment designed for a controlled, idealized image of femininity was confronted by the raw demands of my baby.
Over time, the act of entering, staying, and leaving created a rare intimacy between us. I displaced the intended use of the space to find a place that was ours alone. These images are the record of that intrusion.”
About the Artist: Carlota Guerrero
Carlota Guerrero (b. 1989), a Barcelona-based artist and photographer, navigates a sidereal trajectory questioning the effects of the omnipresent male gaze. Her work, rooted in the spirit of the times, seeks to explore and realize the female perspective.
Addressing the absence of female symbols in positions of power, Guerrero generates a new feminist symbology, filling the imagination gap. Between performative experiences and photography, her creations transcend ordinary photographic works, documenting encounters among women.
This exhibition is supported by the Embassy of Spain in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
