Have you ever imagined your photos exhibited in galleries or in public spaces, but didn’t know how? Do you have a photo serie that has to be creatively thought out and expanded in space? In two days, participants in this workshop have the opportunity to create their own imagined photo exhibition, to analyze the context of their own photo serie(s), to discuss and create a narrative of their exhibition, and to work on developing a concept and a spatial model of their own exhibition. The defined concepts will be developed into specific project proposals competitive for applying individually for international open calls.

Workshop flow:

Participants have the opportunity to attend a lecture on examples in Exhibition Design, key methods, principles and ideas in this discipline, such as: defining narrative, concept, setting-up, spatial design, tehnical measures of space, recognizing the spirit of a space – genius loci, emotions in space, how to treat space, credibility of a mock-up, etc. Each workshop participant is required to submit one or two photography series (the photography cycle has to be completed as a series of multiple photographs) which they will use during the workshop, with an aim of creative thinking and discussion about ways of setting it up in accordance with the mastered principles and methods of spatial design.

Participants will further have the opportunity to visualize their own photo serie in an existing or imagined space, and to create an imagined spatial model of the exhibition design as a specific project proposal for applying on open calls for exhibiting the photo serie. In a group discussion, each of the created project proposals of exhibition design will be evaluated, analyzed and suggestions will be given with the aim of improvement.

Goals:

  • Participants master the basics of space, they recognize and analyze the significance of emotions in space;
  • To master the methods of technical analysis of space and measurement systems, defining measurements and order-layout in space;
  • To understand and contextualize the importance of the exhibition space – defining the flow chart, exhibition narrative, exhibition concept, dimensions and measurements of photographs, etc;
  • To independently create their own project proposals with the conclusions of creative thinking about developed concepts of their own exhibitions, which they can use for future applications to open calls for solo exhibitions;
  • To analyze their own work and to experience examples of group evaluation of works with an aim of improving their project proposals.

Outcome: After completing the workshop, participants can have project proposals prepared for applying to open calls for solo exhibitions, with an aim of showing their photo cycle in a form of an exhibition.
