SPF Workshop 05 | Shutterday With Belmin Islam
Shutterday in Sarajevo is a one-day photographic exploration of the city, designed as an urban journey guided by assigned themes and an individual photographic approach. Participants move through Sarajevo, discovering different locations, receiving thematic assignments, and capturing the city through their own lens, with full freedom in choosing their route and working method.
The Concept
The program begins with a gathering at the starting location in Sarajevo, where participants register and receive essential information about the competition. After an introductory briefing and explanation of the rules, participants begin their photographic journey through the city. In collaboration with festival partners, participants collect thematic assignments at different checkpoints across Sarajevo. Each location offers a distinct perspective on the city, its hidden details, and visual layers, encouraging a research-based approach to photography.
Format
Participants have a limited time frame (approximately 6 hours total) to complete all assigned themes. All photographs must be taken during the duration of the program. At the end, each participant selects one photograph per theme for submission to the jury.
About the Facilitator: Belmin Islam
During the workshop, participants will be supported by the program coordinator and photographer Belmin Islam, who provides logistical and technical assistance, as well as support for on-site movement and coordination. Belmin is a Sarajevo-based photographer and graphic designer. His work focuses on street photography — capturing everyday life, unexpected moments, and authentic faces. He believes that every person carries a story, and that every mark on the skin reveals a chapter of that life. He finds his inspiration in Sarajevo — a city of layered contrasts and rich cultures, where there is always something worth capturing.
Submission & Closing
After completing the shooting process, participants submit their work within the defined deadline. Each participant submits one photograph per theme. The jury evaluates submissions based on creativity, technical execution, originality, and interpretation of Sarajevo as a visual narrative, with a special focus on authenticity and storytelling.
Awards & Winner Announcement
Following the jury selection, winners will be announced on Sunday morning (7 June) at the Goethe-Institut Sarajevo. Main Prize is Canon camera by our partners from Canon \ Avtera for the overall winner of the competition.
